Your first draft

When ⚡ NEW VIDEO finishes, it has made the same thing 1. GENERATE TIMELINE makes in the Editor: a timeline for the whole song and a quick draft of it. The draft is lightweight - lower resolution, no effects - so it comes fast; the finished video comes from 🎬 Render the full video.

Watching it

1. When the window says Your draft is ready, click ▶ Watch your draft.
2. It plays in Onset’s player, with mouse controls to pause and seek.

The same timeline is open in the Editor, so what you watched is what 🎬 Render the full video renders, and what you’ll edit if you change anything.

Another edit

After watching, 🎲 next to ▶ Watch your draft picks the clips again with the same settings and makes a new draft. The new timeline replaces the previous one in the Editor. To try another style, pace or song, use ⚙ Change settings and make another instead.

Each New video gets its own project, named after the song, and its own collection of the videos it used (New video: …), so reopening an earlier project still uses its own videos.

Long footage

With more than about 10 minutes of footage, New video analyzes about 10 minutes of it first, spread across it, so the draft comes quickly. The window then says how much it analyzed, with Analyze the rest: that analyzes all of it (the button says about how long), so Re-roll and new edits have all of your footage to choose from. Your draft and its timeline stay as they are.

Adding the same videos later with 📥 INGEST also analyzes all of them.

The draft is saved as <project name>_DRAFT.mp4 in your project folder.
