Updates & Changelog
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The ℹ button in the header opens About & Updates. It shows the version you’re running, lets you check for a newer one, and contains the full changelog so you can read what changed without leaving the application.
Which version am I running?
Section titled “Which version am I running?”Two places tell you:
- The version badge in the top-left of the header, next to the logo — it shows your exact build, for example
V1.0.12. - The ℹ About & Updates dialog, which shows the same version larger.
Quote this version in any support request. You can also confirm it outside the app: right-click OnsetEngine.exe → Properties → Details.
Checking for updates
Section titled “Checking for updates”Open ℹ and press Check for Updates. One of three things happens:
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ✓ You’re on the latest version | Nothing to do. |
| ⬆ A new version is available | You’ll see the version number and a summary of what changed, with a button that opens the download page. |
| ⚠ A warning message | The check couldn’t complete — usually no internet connection, or the update server was briefly unreachable. Nothing is wrong with your installation. |
Updates are installed by downloading the new installer and running it over your existing installation. Your library, ratings, tags, collections, and drivers are preserved.
Reading the changelog
Section titled “Reading the changelog”The same dialog has a What’s changed panel listing recent releases in plain text. This is bundled with the application, so it works with no internet connection at all — useful for checking whether a problem you’re hitting was already fixed in a version you haven’t installed yet.
Full changelog online opens the complete history in your browser.
On privacy
Section titled “On privacy”Onset Engine does not check for updates on its own. There is no background polling, no check at startup, and no timer.
The application contacts the network only when you press Check for Updates yourself. When you do, it reads a small file listing the current version number. It sends nothing about you, your library, your clips, or your usage — the request carries no identifying information beyond what any web request necessarily includes.
Everything else described on this page, the changelog viewer included, works entirely offline.
